ABOUT

Instagram fonts are not really fonts

The fancy letters in Instagram bios and usernames are not a font. They are Unicode characters. Unicode includes separate bold, script, Fraktur, and double-struck alphabets from A to Z, originally added for mathematical notation. This tool swaps each English letter for one of those characters, so the result can be pasted anywhere, even where you cannot choose a font.

That also limits which characters can change. Most English letters and digits have fancy versions, but other scripts such as Korean do not, so they stay as they are. To decorate any text, wrap it in symbols such as ꧁ ꧂ or ★彡. A few alphabets have gaps in the math block, so letters such as ℎ and ℂ come from the older Letterlike Symbols block.

Keep accessibility in mind before you paste. Screen readers may read fancy letters as “mathematical bold capital H” or skip them, so people using assistive technology may not hear your name correctly, and search features may treat the text differently. Use fancy text for short accents and keep names and key information in plain letters. Some older devices may show certain characters as empty boxes (□).

Frequently asked questions

Will it show up on Instagram?

Yes. These are Unicode characters, not a font, so you can paste them into an Instagram bio or name, TikTok, X, or Discord. If a device’s font lacks a character, it may appear as an empty box (□), so check the preview before saving.

Why don’t some letters change?

Only English letters and digits have fancy Unicode versions. Other scripts stay unchanged. Use the frames to decorate any text, or try the Korean ASCII art tool for a large banner.

Can I use it in a username?

Most services accept it, but some games and sites restrict which characters a username can contain. If saving fails, try another style or a frame. If people need to find you by searching, plain letters work better.

How does upside-down text work?

Each letter is replaced with a character that looks like it was flipped (a→ɐ, e→ǝ), and then the order is reversed, so the text reads normally when the screen is turned 180 degrees.
