Privacy Policy

Last updated:

This policy explains what information lab.ascii (the “service”) handles and how.

1. The short version

  • There are no accounts, and the service never asks for personal details such as your name or phone number.
  • Every conversion happens inside your browser, without uploading your text or images for processing. Sharing, support messages, and older shared links are explained below.
  • Advertising (Google AdSense) may use cookies. Analytics does not save returning-visitor identifiers in cookies or browser storage.

2. Your text and images

Conversion processes your text and images in your device’s memory, without uploading them to a conversion server. Downloaded TXT and PNG files are also created on your device. Closing or reloading the tab clears your work, except for content restored from a shared link and the image handoff below.

When you continue from the home image tool to the detailed tool, the selected image and width are temporarily saved in this browser’s IndexedDB storage. The detailed tool deletes the entry when it reads it, and entries cannot be restored after five minutes. If navigation is interrupted, remaining data is cleaned up on the next handoff access and may stay on your device until then. You can also delete it by clearing site data. The address contains only a random, single-use key that works in the same browser, not the image itself.

New shared links store text, the selected style or gallery item, and sample image settings after the # in the address, for example /#tab=banner&text=HELLO. This part is not sent to the hosting server in page requests, and is removed from analytics. The link still contains the text, so it can appear in browser history and be seen by recipients or apps you share it with. Uploaded images cannot be restored through shared links. Using your device’s sharing feature sends the chosen text or image to the app you select. Do not share content you want to keep private.

Older links using ?text=HELLO include the text in the initial server request and may leave it in access logs. The tool changes the address to the new format after opening, but cannot undo requests or records already collected. Use the share button to create a new link before sharing again.

3. Information the service handles

Type What Why How long
Settings on your device Your choice of light or dark mode and analytics preference To remember your choices Stored only in your browser (localStorage). Deleted when you clear site data
Image handoff Selected image file or sample name, width, save time, and random key To continue work in the detailed image tool Up to three entries in IndexedDB. Deleted when read; cannot be restored after five minutes. Remaining entries are removed on the next handoff access or when you clear site data
Access logs IP address, browser type, time of access, requested address To deliver the site and keep it secure Recorded automatically by the hosting provider (Cloudflare) and kept under its policy
Usage analytics (when analytics is in use) Page and referrer addresses with shared content removed, browser and device type, approximate location estimated from IP, a random identifier used only on the current page, and feature usage (copy, save, share, image upload, and file format) To understand how the service is used and improve it Events are stored by the analytics provider under its policy and the operator’s settings. Identifiers are not kept in device cookies or storage
Messages you send Email address, message, and any attachments To read and answer your message Deleted within one year after the reply, unless the law requires otherwise

4. Cookies, advertising, and analytics

Advertising (Google AdSense)

lab.ascii may show Google AdSense ads to cover its running costs.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
  • Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from partner sites.

Analytics

The service may use PostHog for page views and tool usage events. The parts of addresses after ? and # are removed so shared text is not included in analytics. Identifiers stay in the current page’s memory and are not saved in cookies, localStorage, or sessionStorage. Analytics identifiers and addresses left by earlier versions are not read or sent again. Your text, uploaded images, and screen contents are not collected. Automatic click tracking and session recording are disabled.

Opting out of analytics: use the analytics preference control below. Your choice is saved in this browser’s localStorage, and opting out stops further collection. Statistics already sent and requests in progress cannot be recalled. If browser storage is unavailable, your choice applies only to the current tab. Conversion, copying, and saving continue to work.

Blocking cookies: manage advertising cookies through your browser and the advertising settings linked above. Current analytics does not use cookies, so blocking cookies alone does not stop analytics requests. Clearing site data removes your theme preference, image handoffs, analytics preference, and any analytics data left by earlier versions. Set your opt-out preference again after clearing site data.

5. Sharing and service providers

The operator does not sell or share your personal information. The site relies on the services below, and each handles information under its own privacy policy.

Provider Role
Cloudflare, Inc. Hosting, delivery, and security
Google LLC Advertising (Google AdSense)
PostHog, Inc. Usage analytics (when in use)

6. Your rights

You can ask at any time to access, correct, or delete personal information you have sent (for example, the email address in your message), or to stop it being processed. Use the contact details below and the request will be handled promptly. You can remove settings, image handoffs, and analytics data left by earlier versions by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

7. Children

The service does not ask for personal information and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Security

  • Conversion runs on your device, and input in new shared links is excluded from server requests and analytics.
  • The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
  • Messages are read only from an access-restricted account.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version and its effective date will be posted on this page. This policy is effective as of October 1, 2026.

Analytics preference

Your choice is saved only in this browser. All conversion tools work when analytics is off.

This setting applies only to analytics and does not replace advertising cookie consent. Statistics already sent and requests in progress cannot be recalled.
