About the ANSI Shadow font
ANSI Shadow is a FIGlet conversion of the Shadow font from TheDraw, a DOS-era ANSI art editor. Who converted it is unknown, and its 52 Latin letter shapes match the TheDraw original. Like the original, it has no separate lowercase, so lowercase letters use the uppercase shapes.
Its solid blocks look crisp in a terminal, which makes it a favorite for the startup logos of developer tools. Block characters vary slightly in height between fonts, though, so it may look different in Notepad or chat apps. Save a PNG to keep the exact shape.
Works well for
CLI tool and terminal startup logos, game server banners, and GitHub README logos.

Frequently asked questions
How tall is the ANSI Shadow font?
Banners in ANSI Shadow are 6 lines tall. “HELLO” comes out 41 columns wide, and each letter takes about 8.3 columns on average. For phone chats, compare it with narrow fonts such as Small or Mini.
Does ANSI Shadow support Korean?
FIGlet fonts have no Korean letters, so ANSI Shadow cannot draw Hangul. Use the Korean ASCII art tool for Korean text.
Where does a ANSI Shadow banner stay aligned?
Anywhere that shows text in a monospaced font. On Discord and GitHub, wrap it in a ``` code block; in chat apps with proportional fonts, save a PNG and send the image. Its block characters (█) may change height slightly between fonts.
Can I use ANSI Shadow banners commercially?
The original author’s terms for ANSI Shadow (commercial use and redistribution) have not been confirmed. Before using it for products or advertising, check the author’s terms yourself, or choose a font with confirmed terms such as Standard, Slant, or Big.
