Kaomoji are faces made of characters
Kaomoji (顔文字) means “face characters” in Japanese. Unlike sideways emoticons such as :), kaomoji draw an upright face like (^-^): the brackets are the outline, and the characters inside become eyes and a mouth. Combining characters such as ω, ᴥ, and ʖ lets them show subtle expressions.
This collection mixes classic kaomoji with new everyday-life kaomoji designed by FontVibe, such as left on read (๑-_-)ノ ✓✓, added to a group chat →[(・ω・)], and counting to clock-out (・ω・)…▱▰. Many mix Japanese characters and rare symbols, so older devices may show some of them as boxes (□).
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between kaomoji and emoji?
An emoji is a single picture character that each device draws in its own style. A kaomoji combines several characters, so its look depends on the font, but it works where emoji are not available and can express finer shades of feeling.
Can I use kaomoji in a username?
Usually, yes. Each service limits which characters and how many it accepts, so some symbols may not save.
Why do some kaomoji show up as boxes?
The recipient’s font does not include those characters. Common ones such as ω and ᴥ display almost everywhere, but kaomoji with rare symbols may break on older devices.
