Where to use object art
Object art shows what a post is about at a glance. Put the coffee mug above a café review, the airplane or sailboat on a travel plan, or the laptop on a dev blog or GitHub README. Most pieces use only keyboard characters (/ \ | _ - .), so they look right in any monospaced font.
These are multi-line pieces, so every character has to stay in its column. On Discord or GitHub, wrap them in a ``` code block. In chat apps with proportional fonts, save a PNG and send the image. One-line pieces such as the pencil work anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the art look squashed in my chat app?
Most chat apps use proportional fonts, so multi-line art loses its alignment. Save a PNG and send it as an image, or use a ``` code block where supported.
Can I make the art smaller?
Text art follows the recipient’s font size. To control the size, save a PNG and resize the image.
The object I want is missing.
